About Us

Our Story

Our Rotary Eclub of Greater Cape Town was chartered on Mandela Day, July 18th in 2017. It became the first Eclub in South Africa.
Before we realized it became international, other Rotarians from around the world wanted to join us.
One interesting factor of our Eclub is that we allow every member to start clusters locally where they are situated. It is a perfect way to collaborate with Rotarians and other organizations. It is a way to expand the scope of our Eclub and continually meet new like-minded people who want to be the change.
We do our best to support each member in the projects that they are passionate about. Again, this is where cluster groups work perfectly to help the person expand their project and brainstorm.
Our First Two Presidents:
The first and charter President of our Eclub of Greater Cape Town was Peter Dekker (on the right in the picture).

Our Goals
The strategic objective of the club is to make Rotary membership and the Rotary experience available using the Internet and related technologies, while retaining the social and other aspects of a Rotary club which is so important to the Rotary experience.
We have goals that we would like to accomplish in our Eclub, here are a few of them:
Clarity of Purpose:
Our strategic objective informs and directs our planning, processes, and procedures.
Commitment to Excellence:
What is worth doing is worth doing well. We do not strive for perfection, but rather to do the best we can with our available resources, within reasonable and appropriate time frames.
Effective Leadership:
We strive to establish and maintain effective leadership by:
-
We are focusing on our strategic objective and critical goals.
-
We are exploring opportunities to achieve our objectives and goals and prioritizing activities in the light thereof.
-
We recognize that members elected to leadership roles are equal. For the time being, they are first among equals within the club to manage the club and its affairs in the interest of all members.
-
Developing members' leadership potential, both to fill formal leadership positions in the future and to play an informal leadership role in their club activities.
Sound Organizational Planning:
We establish necessary organizational structures to manage core club functions. We expand our organizational structure to support our strategic objective and key goals as new members with new skills and interests enter our Eclub.
Meaningful Projects and Activities:
-
We establish the skills and interests of members and select and develop projects and activities consistent with those skills and interests;
-
We Partner with other Rotary clubs, Rotaract clubs, and other friends and partners to expand the scope of projects and activities.
Continued Contact with Members:
We maintain continuous contact with members through social media and the internet to:
-
Inform members about the club and its activities. Like what has been planned or arranged, what has taken place, and how it went.
-
Keep members updated on service projects and how they can become involved.
Fellowship & Harmonious Member Interactions
We recognize that fellowship is the foundation of a voluntary club (and thus of a Rotary club) and the cement that keeps it together. As a result, we strive to use our Internet communication, cluster group get-togethers, and face-to-face social events for all members to enable fellowship among our members.
We promote an approach to member interactions that:
-
Is based on the understanding that members are unique individuals with different experiences, skills, and interests;
-
Recognizes that great things can be achieved by a group of diverse individuals when they work together towards a common purpose;
-
Strives to promote and maintain harmonious member relationships and interactions through mutual respect and consideration for the benefit of the club and all its members.
Careful Membership Development:
We strive to assist members in personal and skills development and to develop as members and leaders of the club.
Close Engagement with our District:
We recognize that:
-
Our Rotary district office and leadership are there to assist and support all clubs in the district, including our own;
-
Our club can and should also assist and support the district by:
-
Developing members who could contribute at the district level;
-
Helping where we can to support district goals and initiatives.
Consequently, we strive to establish and maintain contact and engage with the district's committees, structures, and office bearers for the mutual benefit of our club and our district.
Effective use of appropriate Technology:
We use technology as an enabler that helps us achieve our strategic objectives and critical goals.
